Pulse Oximeter Project
We have pulse oximeters available for patients being discharged and meet criteria for home O2 monitoring based on the Department of Health guidelines. See that attached document “ED Pulse OX Providers” for the specific criteria.
- The pulse oximeters are located in a locked yellow cabinet in room 17. You can get the keys from CCT attending drawer or one of the attendings working in the pod. For tracking purposes, please make sure you place a patient sticker and date in the logbook located on top of the cabinet. We should have a discharge order available on EPIC soon, but as of right now, use the logbook.
- There are cards available for patients to participate in the HHC text message monitoring system. The program assesses patient symptoms and/or pulse oximetry readings and provides catered guidance based on patient responses. The program is free, available in 14 languages.
- I’ve attached paper form that patients can use and write down their daily pulse ox readings. Alternatively, there’s a QR code (also attached) that links directly to a form for submission of daily readings. These are for our own data collection.
- When giving the patients the pulse ox, explain how to use it and provide them with the card containing the text message monitoring system, a log sheet, and/or a paper with the QR code. You can find all these papers throughout the front and back of the pod. You can also always print them out as I’ve attached them to this email.
