Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine/Critical Care

A specialized Critical Care Medicine track was established in 2018. Our program became the 6th program in the country to have a combined emergency medicine – internal medicine – critical care track.

How long is the program?
It is a 6 year integrated program at the conclusion of which graduates are board-eligible for emergency medicine, internal medicine and critical care.

Can I apply directly to the EM/IM/CCM program?

No.  Applicants must apply to the EM/IM program and will then have the opportunity to switch into the critical care track during the fourth year of training. For more information on how to apply to the EM/IM program, click here.

How many applicants are accepted per year?
We accept 1 applicant per year.

I think I might be interested in a combined program, but my institution does not have a program.  Is there anyone I can contact for more information and guidance?
Yes! Most program directors of dual training programs are willing to offer guidance and answer questions.  You can reach our program director, Dr. Schechter, at joshua.schechter@downstate.edu.
