We offer training for board eligibility in both Emergency and Internal medicine. Located in the center of Brooklyn, New York City’s largest borough, we offer an unparalleled training experience in one of the busiest emergency departments in the country with active in-patient and out-patient services in a tertiary care center. The Emergency medicine residency is one of the largest residencies in the country with a national reputation and a focus on diversity, leadership, research, and clinical acumen. The Internal medicine department is one of the largest academic departments in the country with 13 academic training programs, a diverse faculty, and fellowships in all major subspecialties.
We are looking for applicants to become part of our diverse residency program with an interest in serving our underserved community, leadership, and training in a fast paced clinically rich environment.
How long is the program?
It is a 5 year integrated program at the conclusion of which graduates are board-eligible for both emergency medicine and internal medicine.
How many applicants are accepted per year?
We accept 4 applicants per year.
Where is the program located?
We are located in central Brooklyn in New York City. Our primary teaching sites are SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Kings County Hospital Center.
How old is the program?
Our first graduating class was in 2007.
What do graduates do after training?
Many graduates go on to academic fellowships and careers. Our graduates are uniquely poised to go on to careers in critical care medicine, global and international health, observation medicine, hospitalist and consultation medicine, leadership, and administration to name a few.

Applications are only accepted via the ERAS application service. The ERAS program number for the combined EM/IM program is 7053544018.

Do you have a 6 year critical care track?
Yes. Starting in 2018 our program became the 6th program in the country to have a combined emergency medicine – internal medicine – critical care track.
Can I apply directly to the EM/IM/CCM program?
No. Applicants must apply to the EM/IM program and will then have the opportunity to switch into the critical care track during the fourth year of training.
