  • Why SUNY/Kings County:I felt it was the perfect place for me to train. The program offers an unparalleled hands-on clinical experience that I know will help me become the best EM doc I can possibly be and fulfill all of my future goals. Most importantly, I felt the level of camaraderie, and mutual support among the people in the program was unlike any other. Finally, the program has an amazingly diverse group of residents and faculty members that treat Brooklyn's diverse and underserved population with compassion and eagerness.
Balal Aslam

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I love traveling, nature, junk food, trying new restaurants and playing games.
Why SUNY/Kings County: As a downstate student, I was always impressed with the knowledge, skill level and work ethic the EM residents demonstrated. I wanted to be as awesome as them! Also couldn't imagine leaving Brooklyn.

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: Traveling/hiking, foodie, festivals/clubbing/EDM/concerts, snowboarding, board games, philosophy and history books, meditation, and last but certainly not least is cleaning and organizing lol 
  • Why SUNY/Kings County: I chose SUNY/Kings because it dedicates itself to the county mission of serving vulnerable populations and produces bad a$$ EM physicians who continually strive to improve the lives of those in their community. SUNY/Kings will prepare me to work anywhere in the world while also constantly pushing me to become a better person.
Miguel Barrios

  • Hobbies: Cooking, try new restaurants, exploring the city, and binging netflix
  • Why SUNY/Kings: Could not imagine a better place to train to become an EM doctor. Lots of clinical exposure and academic opportunities. All the residents have become a close-knit family. Also, nothing can beat living in Brooklyn.
Rabani Bharara

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: I LOVE dogs, the beach, relaxing in my hammock, listening to vinyls on my record player, scuba diving, board games, making pasta, knitting, brunch, slam poetry, traveling, collecting street art, and I have recently been getting into bouldering!
  • Why SUNY/Kings County: I couldn't imagine training anywhere else. SUNY/Kings County has it all. The residency is an incredibly supportive and close-knit family who strive to serve and improve the lives of the community of East Flatbush and Brooklyn. This group of doctors are not only badass clinicians, but also community advocates, teachers, and active members of hospital leadership. As a SUNY Downstate Medical School alumni this was evident from the first time I stepped in the ED during MS1. By training at SUNY/Kings County I know I will be prepared to handle anything that comes my way. #COUNTYSTRONG

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: Exploring NYC, foodie, hiking, walking, watching most sports (Go Knicks and Giants!!), comic books, superhero movies, the beach, vacations, board games
  • Why SUNY/Kings County: Having first stepped foot into the ED four years ago as a MS1, I could not see myself working anywhere else. The people here are unlike anywhere else. The attendings, co-residents, medical students, and staff are all like family and treat you as such. The support and motivation to teach helps create a comfortable learning environment. And most importantly, the patients! We are here for them and thankful for the opportunity to learn from them. I know that by the end of my four years, I'll be ready to help anyone that walks through those ER doors. 
Esteban Davila

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: running, volleyball, basketball, football, soccer, rooting for all Dallas sports (GO COWBOYS), weight lifting, collecting vinyls, meditating, scary movies. Always down to go hiking. St. John's Alum! 
  • Why SUNY/Kings County: I have familiarity of the New York area from undergrad, I knew I wanted to work in a county hospital to help underserved communities, and I want to leave residency feeling like I've seen everything. This program has it all!
Camilo Galeano Londono

  • Hobbies: Walking my pup, going to Prospect Park, exploring Brooklyn, and watching most sports. 
  • Why SUNY/Kings County: The amazing patients, the wonderful attendings and staff, and the great residents.

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: Hobbies include traveling, hiking, trying new food/restaurants, watching horror movies, and collecting baseball caps from places where I travel to. Fun fact, I can move my eyes horizontally really quickly. 
  • Why SUNY/Kings County: I wanted to train at a residency that would prepare me for anything. For the patient population and it was easy to interact with the faculty and residents.

  • Why SUNY/King’s County: I wanted a program that would not only provide me with the best clinical training but with an amazing support system and EM family

  • Why SUNY/Kings County: The patient population, community, and quality of the training. I learn by doing, and I want to be trained to handle anything and everything that comes my way!
Max Mecklenburg

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: Biking (I was an NYC bicycle tour guide), gardening and eating stuff I grew, NYC street parties and live music, travel, the beach! Also homebody stuff like reading and cooking
  • Why SUNY/Kings County: To learn from the best and work with the community I know and love. This program has the people who wanted to be the best clinically and then go beyond that and think about the bigger issues that bring our patients to the ED
Taylor Murtaugh

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: basketball, the beach, working out, DIYing, and spending time with friends and family 
  • Why SUNY/Kings County: Honestly it's the people, from the patients, to the faculty, and the staff. I went to medical school at SUNY Downstate and from my first experience in the ED, I knew it was the people that would make training at Downstate/Kings such a meaningful experience.

  • Why SUNY/Kings County: I was looking for a county program that would not only challenge me every day clinically, pushing me out of my comfort zone to help me grow into a better doctor ready for anything as an attending, but, one where I could learn from and serve patients with a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, and grow as a human.

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: Spending too much money finding new restaurants to try, hanging with my wife and cat, cycling, camping, hiking, good and bad t.v/film, and a bourgeoning dad-level obsession with golf.
  • Why SUNY/King’s County: I wanted the challenge and privilege of training in a true county setting, as well as the opportunity to learn from leaders in the field at a program that’s dedicated to faithfully serving the incredible patient population of central Brooklyn. I’m also thrilled to be back living in NYC, working in whatever small way I can to help heal and revitalize the greatest city in the world.

  • Why SUNY/Kings County: The deserving patients and the incredible people that make up the program! This residency is one big family, who all work tirelessly to provide the most excellent care to a vulnerable population. SUNY/Kings will prepare me for anything I encounter in my career, and I get to train in one of the greatest cities in the world!

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: Cycling everywhere, recreating fun recipes I find on Google, Eating sushi, Scoping out new foodie spots, Learning Spanish on DuoLingo, Absolute newbie at bouldering but trying to get better at it! Can cook a mean omelette, Wrestled throughout middle and high school, Rrrrrecently learned how to rrrrroll my R's (thank you Victoria!)

  • Hobbies/Fun Facts: hiking, camping, playing all the sports (especially volleyball and softball), watching baseball (let’s go Mets!), *amateur* country swing dancing, scuba diving, napping on a beach or in a hammock, and looking at the stars while commenting on how cool space is.
