EM/IM Class of 2030

Steven Schwab

Hometown: Danbury, CT
Medical School: Tufts University School of Medicine
Hobbies/Fun Facts: I love spending time with my partner, friends, and family, traveling the world, drinking the best coffee I can find, playing video games, especially Pokemon, and listening to all sorts of podcasts from history to medicine to food to psychology and culture. I’m an avid yogi and recently completed my yoga teacher training. I also am into weightlifting, rock climbing, especially bouldering, and spin.
Why SUNY/Kings County: Great community of caring, authentic, and clinically excellent folx dedicated to doing their best to serve all of their patients. By training here, I know I will be challenged to become the best physician, educator, advocate, and leader I can be!

Nicole Uzzo

Hometown: New York, NY
Medical School: TouroCOM-Harlem
Hobbies/Fun Facts: home cooking, hanging with friends & fam, grabbing coffee, snuggling with my dog, and finding time for personal fitness, yoga/pilates, running, reading, road trips, and beach days.
Why SUNY/Kings County: This place really felt right. It’s the perfect combo of everything I was looking for in a residency program: location, education, patient population, mission, vision, and most importantly, people. SUNY/Kings County will challenge and support me in becoming a truly competent, kind, and confident physician.

Arden Vessie

Hometown: Sayville, NY/Clayton, NC
Medical School: The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Distance running, language exchange (Spanish), baking/cake decorating, long walks and outdoor adventures with my dog, Lucy, trying new restaurants, DIY projects. A fun fact about me is that I grew up helping in my family’s bakery and have worked for 3 different bakeries in my lifetime!
Why SUNY/Kings County: The people (!), the breadth/depth/volume of clinical experience, and the good match of institutional and program missions to my personal goals in medicine. During my away here as an M4, I really enjoyed working in the county hospital environment and the way people here prioritized service to and advocacy for underserved communities in medicine.

Paul Zakrepine

Hometown: Tappan, NY
Medical School: SUNY Downstate
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Cooking, Baking and Fermenting, Jiu Jitsu, Travelling and Video games
Why SUNY/Kings County: I've wanted to come to Kings County/SUNY since my first time in the emergency department. The residents and attendings all knew how to manage any problem that came their way and despite the volume of patients, there was always an incentive placed on teaching and making sure that every clinical experience was also an educational one. The providers at Kings County/Downstate embodied the kind of practitioner I hope to be one day, a clinical monster!
