EM/IM Class of 2025

Shane Solger
Hometown: Skokie, Illinois
Medical School: New York Medical College
Hobbies/Fun facts: Soccer, weightlifting, lounging around in sweatpants, former doc with the Marines (artillery and aviation)
Why SUNY/Kings: Huge reputation for pumping out leaders, incredible spectrum of pathology, nothing but good interactions with the faculty, and a serendipitous interaction I had while waiting for my Uber after my interview: a former nurse(present patient) at the SUNY Downstate hospital struck up a conversation with me, talked about how much she loved the hospital, and told me she hoped I would match at SUNY Downstate. It’s hard to forget an unprompted interaction like that.
Janani Ahmed
Hometown: Rochester Hills, MI
Medical School: Western Michigan Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Cooking, eating, board games, geocaching and traveling
Why SUNY/Kings County: The chance to care for the local underserved community - and in the process receive some of the best clinical training and experiences!
Samantha Mazzeo
Hometown: Rocky Point, NY
Medical School: NYITCOM
Hobbies/Fun Facts: playing in sports leagues, running, traveling, biking, hiking, seeing live music, singing in my boyfriend's band, pretending I can play piano and guitar, cats & dogs, eating/cooking/baking/drinking. Fun Fact.. I'm a "Licensed Mixologist" (aka I wasted $300 on Bartending School when I was in college).
Why SUNY/Kings County: My top two considerations for choosing a residency were people and location. At SUNY/Kings, I met some wonderful, genuine, and welcoming people who gave off a very strong selfless and family vibe. I always dreamed of completing my residency training in NYC, so these two things combined with the opportunity to train in both EM & IM.. it was an absolute no brainer for me!

Christopher Kiang

Hometown: Lake Grove, NY

Medical School: SUNY Downstate

Hobbies: Exploring/viewing nature, playing with animals, video games, listening to podcasts, making amateur music, practicing mindfulness, and catching up on sleep.

Why SUNY/Kings?: I have lived in the Flatbush/East Flatbush community since the start of my undergraduate studies. And as an alumnus of SUNY Downstate, I feel a strong connection to the hospital and local community. I am proud to be able to work and learn alongside other healthcare workers whom I admire and respect, and to serve a community that deserves so much more.
