Hobbies/Fun Facts: I was born in Egypt and have been to the pyramids multiple times growing up! I love to travel and my goal is to visit every country. I also love to box, do yoga and go to the gym. When I'm not doing any of those things I'm probably  binging the trashiest reality tv or trying a new restaurant in the city.
Why SUNY/Kings County: It was important to me to serve a diverse community as the first physician to an immigrant family. I wanted all the challenges of a county hospital while living and training in Brooklyn! Being a part of such a renowned program will make me the EM doc I aspire to be!

Nicky Chan

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Avid Fisherman, scuba diving, hiking, spearfishing. I have freshwater aquariums keeping exotic fish and shrimp. I love traveling and trying new foods from all over. Cat enjoyer in my spare time.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I chose this program for its exceptional training, high acuity, and the chance to push myself in one of the country’s most dynamic clinical environments. Being able to serve my hometown community while having all the needed support to become a confident and capable EM physician makes this the perfect place to train.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I’m a foodie determined to try every restaurant in NYC, a racquet sports enthusiast, a dedicated TV and movie binge-watcher, and a huge fan of all things DC.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I chose SUNY Downstate/Kings County because it offers rigorous training in a diverse, high-acuity NYC environment, where I’ll learn from compassionate and supportive colleagues and gain the skills to thrive anywhere.

Kelly Dinh

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I have been playing classical piano for over 24 years and entered medical school with a degree in Music (Piano). I dabble in singing, guitar, drums, and also love to dance (urban choreography, hip-hop, salsa, bachata). My outdoor hobbies include rock climbing, skiing, biking, surfing, yoga, hiking/backpacking, and traveling. I love expressing myself creatively and adventuring in the outdoors.
Why SUNY/Kings County: Training at a county program has been my top priority because of its mission, patient population, camaraderie, and the opportunity for high-acuity learning. I chose this program because its values align with mine, the faculty is passionate about education, and the resident culture feels like family. Meeting alumni showed me that this program produces not only excellent physicians but also compassionate clinicians, strong educators, and inspiring leaders. I am confident that this program will train me to become the physician I aspire to be, and I am excited to be part of this incredible team.

Why SUNY/Kings County: My priorities were matching at a county hospital in NYC at a program with significant trauma exposure, and Kings County fits that bill for me!

Nathaniel Graves

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Love to cook, dine in and out, love water activities everything from swimming to rafting to lounging or reading by a body of water. All things vocal performance: cultural festivals, tribute performances, niche music projects, love arranging vocals doing recording sessions. Pop-soul, Motown, Gospel, RnB, Funk, Classical, Jazz, you name it I'm usually game for it. Love spending time outside in green areas, long walks and deep conversations with family and friends. Love going to see shows, supporting friends in their artistry.  Fun Fact, I was born in Alaska.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I heard about Downstate’s clinical reputation as a scribe and furthermore resonated deeply with the university’s mission and it’s efforts to serve some of our most vulnerable, culturally diverse and vibrant populations all with an emphasis on social determinants of health. This led me to do my MPH at Downstate during the pandemic, where I met amazing clinicians, scholars, community thought leaders and always wanted to return to train clinically, which makes me ever so grateful to be part of the monster family. Could not be more elated and humbled to join the team.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: my dog, walks with my dog, hot yoga/pilates (the hotter the better), eating lots different types of yummy food and hanging out with my friends in breweries/wineries - really anywhere with an adult beverage
Why SUNY/Kings County: I chose Kings County because I am deeply committed to serving and learning from individuals of all backgrounds, and there is no better place to do so than in the dynamic, diverse community of Brooklyn. I am confident that my training here will not only equip me with the clinical skills to handle any challenge that presents in the emergency department, but also empower me to be a strong advocate for every patient I encounter, regardless of their circumstances.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I love and enjoy teaching, reading self help books, drawing, exploring NYC to try different types of foods (sushi is my favorite!), going to the park and definitely spending time with family.
Why SUNY/Kings County: SUNY Downstate/Kings County embodies all the characteristics to describe home. The staff and patients are filled with love and kindness. This Hospital is one of a kind and top tier in their treatment of patients as a whole rather than just their pathology. Additionally, this hospital is composed of personnel from all over the world, offering diversity amongst all departments. With it being a highly recommended hospital, it is with great honor to say I'm a part of such a holistic and education driven program. I look forward to collaborating with my co-workers to ensure that all patients get the best plan of care possible.

Why SUNY/Kings County: I chose Kings County because I knew it would prepare me to practice in any setting, with the kind of hands-on, high-volume clinical experience that builds true confidence. The program’s reputation for strong teaching and outstanding clinicians was another major draw. As someone originally from NYC, it means a lot coming back and giving back to the community I came from.

Why SUNY/Kings County: This program embodied everything I love about emergency medicine: community, clinical excellence, unwavering dedication, and diversity. I sought a program that would prepare me to confidently practice in any setting after I finish residency, and Kings offered exactly that and more. The dynamic environment of a NYC public hospital with a strong Social EM mission will give me an unparalleled learning experience that will deeply shape my growth as a physician.

Why SUNY/Kings County: I immediately fell in love with the program during my audition rotation as a fourth year medical student and I knew then that I wanted to train at a program alongside passionate EM physicians and serve a diverse, underserved community. I’m excited about the opportunity to grow in a program that will not only prepare me to practice emergency medicine anywhere in the world, but also challenge me to become a more capable physician and a better person.

Why SUNY/Kings County: I immediately felt a genuine sense of community from the faculty and residents—it was clear that everyone truly cares about each other. I would say that the program’s strong commitment to community advocacy stood out to me the most. You also can’t really beat the amount of experience that comes with training in a county hospital. And honestly, I just love Brooklyn.

Why SUNY/Kings County: Graduating from Downstate, I was well acquainted with the excellent hospital staff and community. I wanted to graduate from a residency program knowing I can tackle any problem that comes through the door. All that and steps from Prospect Park? Sounds like the perfect combo to me.
