Brooke Bernardin

Medical School: University of Pennsylvania
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Aerial silks, baking, running, art museums, meditation, yoga, house & techno music, and spoiling my cat Sancho. I have dislocated my pinky toe twice.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I wanted a program where I would genuinely serve the surrounding community and be challenged to become the best EM doctor I could be!

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I enjoy hiking with my dog and husband, reading, basic home improvement projects, and trying new restaurants in my spare time.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I chose SUNY/ Kings County for the impeccable quality of the training and the opportunity to be at a county hospital.

Emily Esposito

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Eating lots of local foods while traveling/backpacking, spending money I don't have (mostly by going out to eat), long days at the beach, wine, cooking big meals and hosting, getting in over my head during DIY projects/crafts, reading books near bodies of water, bubble baths, snowboarding, believing "this is our year" for New York Mets, long walks in Prospect Park & of course dogs. I'm a huge sucker for live music in chill settings.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I was looking for a program to best prepare me for the type of doctor I aspire to be. A program that cares deeply about the community it serves, values its residents as individuals, and is dedicated to the teaching and happiness of the residents. I am honored to join a legendary program that will prepare me to be a clinical monster, and push me to be the best version of myself. Also, it's New York or Nowhere.

Conner Fleurat

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I have a tattoo of Pikachu, my hair was salmon colored when typing this and I dressed as giant pair of pants for halloween this past year. I enjoy going to local drag shows, baking, gymnastics and making my own cold brew.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I’m a New York or nowhere kinda person, but beyond that, being trained at King's means I will get to see everything that an emergency room has to offer to become a real Clinical Monster. My public health background taught me how important prevention is, so I also wanted to work somewhere that puts an emphasis on social justice and patient advocacy in medicine.

The warmth and supportive atmosphere I experienced during my interview, along with the opportunity to live and train in Brooklyn, confirmed that this is the perfect place for me to grow as an EM physician.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I love hiking and camping; I run and train BJJ; and I'm a big reader. As the youngest of five, I'm a big family girl.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I want to train in the epicenter of emergency medicine. Kings County has a diverse patient population and an even more varied pathology. I know that becoming a Clinical Monster will prepare me to confidently face anything as I progress in my career.

Gerdley Michel

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Singing, cooking, traveling, weightlifting. I was featured on the news twice!
Why SUNY/Kings County: When picking a program I wanted to be somewhere that felt like home. I also wanted to be somewhere that would expose me to as much as possible during training. As a first generation Haitian-American born and raised in Brooklyn, I knew that Kings County would be that place. I’m excited to be able to give back to the community that raised me.

Milo Mikell

Hometown: Columbia, SC
Medical School: Sidney Kimmel Medical College
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Hosting dinner, soccer, backpacking, playing piano, going out to eat, craft beer, hanging in the park, drinking coffee, reading, slow mornings. I was a whitewater canoe trip leader in North Carolina for teenagers the summer between first and second years of medical school. I will probably never go whitewater canoeing again, but it was certainly a summer full of lasting memories!
Why SUNY/Kings County: I want to be a physician that my peers can turn to when the going gets tough. I felt confident that training at SUNY/Kings would make me into that doctor. I wanted a program that cares about its community and is active in addressing social determinants of health. Lastly, I was super excited to make Brooklyn home.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Lifting heavy stuff, eating good food, video games and board games, playing table tennis and basketball. I speak three languages fluently; Turkish as my mother tongue, Swedish as my father tongue, and English thanks to the internet.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Exploring, working out, David Attenborough documentaries, cooking but not baking, The Atlantic/New Yorker articles, brunch, anything active and NOT relaxing. I know all the world capitals!
Why SUNY/Kings County: My personal goal is to learn the skills to be invaluable in any situation. That has meant hustling in a resource-limited village hospital in Botswana, braving the winter camping for a wilderness medicine course, and coming to Kings County for EM residency. Now only will I grow into a capable and confident physician here, but I also get to enjoy this journey in the best city in the world.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Baking, eating, and anything sports-related, but my first love is ice hockey. I also love movies, skiing, and exploring with my dog.
Why SUNY/Kings County: It was the program that felt the most right for me. I am excited about the opportunity to work with a diverse population in need at a program that values health equity and social EM. When talking with the different attendings and residents, I wanted to continue my training in the challenging and supportive environment they described.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I spend most of my free time outside — rock climbing, backpacking, shooting nature photos, sleeping in my van in cool places, etc. Besides that, I bake a lot and enjoy writing, making music, and playing video games.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I followed the sacred five B's: Baller docs who can handle anything, Big need in a diverse community, county-Backed, Bagels and Brooklyn.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I fly planes. I'll eat anything deemed edible by another human being at least once. If I'm not looking for a new restaurant to try I'm probably roaming around trying to find a good spot to soak in views of the city. Every now and then I'll be camping up in the mountains to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Why SUNY/Kings County: Learning to become a clinical monster while serving as the medical safety net for some of Brooklyn's most underserved patients? Sign me up! Also the vibes here during the interview day were definitely the best.
