Why SUNY/Kings County: I was here for a rotation as a student and
loved the diverse group of residents. I also encountered some of the
nicest patients I have ever seen and thought it would feel good to
spend four years them.

Madonna Dibella
Hometown: Buffalo, NY
Medical School: SUNY Downstate
Hobbies/fun facts: Anything with chocolate or dogs, scary movies/movie theaters/drive-ins, trying to go to every bakery in NYC, attempting to run outside, Wegmans
Why SUNY/Kings: As a medical student at Downstate, I watched the EM residents all 4 years and thought they were the smartest, most hard-working, patient-loving and capable residents I had ever seen. I wanted to be just like them.
Paul Lavadera
Hometown: Princeton Jct, NJ
Medical School: Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
Hobbies/Fun Facts: High altitude hiking - some of my favorites include Chimborazo, Annapurna Base Camp, Mt. Adams; Backpacking; Dressing Up and Getting Down; Attending Concerts (trance and alt rock, EDM); Road trips and international immersion experiences. Fun Fact - I drove a UHaul with my two friends and a cat (that I'm allergic to) to move my friend from Philly to LA.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I felt an extraordinary connection to the program on interview day! I loved the energy of the residents during the pre-interview social, the faculty's focus on diversity & inclusion + community advocacy & social justice, and the smiles of the patients in the emergency room. I've also got strong family roots in Brooklyn that will be great to connect to! 
Karen Jeoffroy
Hometown: Queens, NY
Medical School: Howard University College of Medicine 
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Boxing, working out, cooking, trying new restaurants, and all things wine. Fun Fact, my favorite movie is Coming to America and I can recite every line!
Why SUNY/Kings County: I wanted a program that would cultivate me into a resilient EM doctor. Additionally, it was important that the program was intentional with the patient population they served. As a Haitian American, I felt I could make an impact serving the community that has played such a huge role in my life. SUNY/Kings was the perfect match! 
 
Malithi Navarathna

Hometown: Floral Park, NY

Medical School: CUNY School of Medicine

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Traveling, cooking (especially Southeast Asian cuisine!), hanging out with my adorable mini poodle mix puppy, exploring NYC (25 years of living here and I still think there’s more to see!)

Why SUNY/Kings County: The people! I loved seeing how everyone was supportive of each other in the program and could have fun together even on shift at 4 am! 

Alexis Zumbrunn
Hometown: Apple Valley, California
Medical School: Albany Medical College
Hobbies: Snowboarding, wakeboarding, going out to eat, bar hopping, live music, hanging with friends and family, binging Netflix shows, reading, attempting to cook/bake, traveling.
Why SUNY/Kings County: I wanted an opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, incredible co-residents, and to become a clinical monster that would be prepared for absolutely anything that came my way...in one of the coolest cities in the country.  
 
Edwin Rosendo
Hometown: Queens, NY
Medical School: Weill Cornell Medical College
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Soccer, Video Games, Foodie, Dog + Cat lover
Why SUNY/King's: NYC is my home and I knew I wanted a true county experience in order to train and become the best clinician I could be to serve the communities I came from, making King's an easy decision! Plus that jollof at the diversity dinner was amazing.
 
Harry Nonez
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
Medical School: Howard University College of Medicine
Hobbies/Fun Facts: My fun fact is that since football didn't work out at Penn State, I became a Penn State Cheerleader instead. So if you want to practice getting thrown in the air or just want to throw around the football, I'm your guy! I enjoy working out, watching Penn State football, meeting new people, cooking and eating at different restaurants.  
Why SUNY/Kings County: I grew up coming to Kings County as a kid. I love the community and the patients we take care of. After doing the Minority Medical Student in Emergency Medicine summer internship program with Dr. Gore, then my 4th yr away rotation, I knew this place was for me! Plus, no other program pumps out more bad@$$ EM attendings than Kings County!
Sarah Galler
Hometown: Rockville Centre, NY
Med school: SUNY Downstate!
Hobbies/Fun Facts: Eating brunch all over NYC, beach trips, barre/yoga class, petting dogs I see on the street, having wine and cheese nights, watching Parks and Rec for the 89343975th time, being outdoors as much as possible
Why SUNY/Kings County: There is no better place to become a bad a$$ EM doctor than Downstate/Kings! I know I will constantly be challenged while also being fully supported by the program and my co-residents. I have loved serving this community during med school and I couldn't imagine training anywhere else!
Nivedita Poole

Hobbies/Fun Facts: traveling, baking, trying new foods, painting, all things Disney and dogs!, global health, social EM 

Why SUNY/Kings County: I love the diversity of the department! And I wanted to train at a program where service to the local community and advocating for vulnerable individuals is part of the mission and culture. I know that I will get amazing training to work anywhere in the world!

Why Kings: The people I met at County talked about being challenged to not only be better doctors, but better people, too.

Hobbies: marathons (both on foot and on screen), hiking, traveling, crafting, relaxing outside with drinks and dogs
Why SUNY/Kings: The perfect mix of a county patient population combined with academic opportunities where I know I will leave ready to handle absolutely anything that may show up in the ED!

Why SUNY/Kings County: Born and raised in BK, this is my home. I grew up around the corner of Kings County, was born here and even went to school across the street. There is nothing better than returning home.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Big foodie!!! I love to make things. I enjoy cooking, baking, painting, drawing, sewing, DIY projects, and lots of naps.

Why SUNY/Kings: The people, the community, and the commitment to providing the highest quality of care to the most vulnerable among us. I want to see and learn as much as I can during my training, and as a safety-net hospital in the heart of Brooklyn, SUNY/Kings is the perfect place for this.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: Climbing, backpacking, surf and snow, swimming, diving, spicy foods, kombucha brewing, and trying anything new!
 
Why SUNY/Kings County: I wanted a county program that would push me out of my comfort zone, and a place where I could make a difference in patients’ lives. I love the diversity of the residency and its community, and when I rotated here, I felt right at home.

Hobbies/Fun Facts: I love food! (mostly eating it), culture, music, languages, spending time with family, yoga, lifting, photography 
 
Why SUNY/Kings County: The diversity! I had never been to Brooklyn prior to interviewing at SUNY/Kings and I remember how wide i smiled when i pulled on campus in my uber and saw the ED sign written in french. furthermore, I have a strong interest in global health and working with underserved populations so I felt SUNY/KINGS would be the perfect place for a spectacular training and opportunity to futher nurture my interests.
